Most of us want our homes to look nice. Consequently, we invest time and money in upkeep and maintenance and spend hundreds of hours doing jobs such as mowing, power washing, raking and even snow plowing (determined by where you might live!) . And while each one of these tasks take time, they’re worth doing since it keeps our house at its best.
However, there is one portion of the house which can be easy to overlook – mostly because we do not always appear. Yet, the roof is among the most important sections of the home because it is among the very first lines of defense against outside elements.
Take some time to clean out the gutters. Letting debris and leaves pile upon will result in the roof shingles being damaged. Additionally, the pile up of debris can allow water to get in the roof sheathing and cause it as well as the roof rafters to rot.
Do not let leaves to pile up on the roof – but don’t use a pressure washer to eliminate them! Instead a soft car washing brush on a telescoping rod or even a leaf blower wielded with a professional, can be put into place.
Eliminate any moss that could be growing on your roof. A roofing contractor may employ strip to the peak of your roof to stop mold from growing.
Inspect any metallic regions for rust. If you find it, use a wire brush to remove that, then prime and paint using a rust resistant coating.
Eliminate any overhanging branches as along with falling leaves and leaves on to your roof, will provide easy access to roofing for critters such as squirrels, raccoons, and many others. Side note – not having low branches above your roof make it less likely for a burglar to try and find a rooftop entry point!
If you live a region of the country where ice and snow are common, be sure to do your part to stop ice dams. IN case ice does form on your roof, do not attempt to pry off the ice. Instead use a telescoping pool and operate from the floor by raking off the snow.
Roof maintenance is not something to be overlooked, and should be done routinely so that you are able to ensure your roof last for many decades. By implementing these ideas you can make certain your roof may stand the ravages of these components. In case you have questions consult with your neighborhood roofing contractor or home builder to find out what you need to be doing.
